July 11, 2007

She smiled gently up at him, his last words still ringing in her ears.
"You think I'm an angel?" she managed with only a slight quiver. he smiled lovingly. She could clearly feel the love in his gaze, as it burned hotly into her threw their locked eyes. His proclamation of love made her gut twist painfully, her mouth go dry and her palms sweat. Slowly, her smile faded as she summoned up all the courage she had in order to say her next words.
"Even angels fall." It was said quietly and she didn't look up for fear of what she would see in his deeply expressive eyes. Swiftly, before she could change her mind, she turned on her heal and walked out of his life. He stood there stunned for a moment. Then he noticed a piece of paper that she had left on the table before her quick exit. Picking it up, he began to read with dawning comprehension at every word.
*Jake, I'm sorry, I can't give you my love, I love another and I couldn't bear to hurt you. If you want to talk, you can call. Before you ask, it's not your fault.
Torie* He was thankful she had the decency to tell him, even if it wasn't in person.

The tears rolled down her face as she watched the plane take to the sky.
"I miss you already." she could still hear his voice.
"I know that once you get there and meet new people, you'll forget all about me." She whispered brokenly as she turned away from the plane and walked back out of the airport. Climbing back into her car, she slowly pulled away from the airport, away from her boyfriend, away from everything that once made sense. As she drove, she turned the radio on to try and drown out her thoughts. As she did, she heard:
~When I think of you,
I don't know what to do,
when will I see you again?
I miss you like crazy
even more than words can say.
I miss you like crazy,
every minute of every day,.
Girl I'm so down,
when your love's not around,
I miss you like crazy.~
And the tears fell even harder, stinging her eyes and blurring her vision. /What am I going to do?/
she thought bitterly. /I mean he was my life./ With a sickening gasp, she realized that this was probably how Jake felt when she had left him with nothing more than a measly note of explanation all those months ago. Although, he had called. Eventually. They had talked at length and he had said he was happy that she was happy, but she could never quite understand that. After that first phone call, he hadn't called again. She had thought about it, but she could never work up the nerve to actually pick up the phone and dial. Not caring where she ended up, she continued to drive, letting her thoughts wander. At first when she had left Jake, she had felt guilty, but once she was warmly wrapped in Paul's arms, everything seemed so right. They had a good few months, but then the job offer had come from Texas and he couldn't afford not to take it and no matter how happy they were, she couldn't just pick up and leave. She had insisted they break up, but he had promised they'd be together forever, but in her mind, they were already apart, he just hadn't realized it yet. She figured he'd work it out soon enough. As much as she loved him, she never understood what he saw in her. She wasn't built like a super model, her hips were too wide, and she was practically minus any kind of cleavage, needless to say, she didn't see the beauty he proclaimed to. She stopped the car and got out. Sometime between leaving the airport and now it had started to rain. She hurried into a coffee shop feeling that her best bet would be to get something warm into her stomach as it had cooled down drastically. Taking her hot chocolate, she made her way to an empty table in a darkened corner and sat down.
"Is this seat taken?" a voice asked. She barely looked up before nodding.
"It's all yours." The person sat quietly for a few minutes before suddenly asking softly,
"Torie?" she glanced up slowly. Her eyes widened in recognition.
"Jake? Hey." she new her eyes were red and puffy and for some reason this fact bothered her.
"It's been a while." he said again in that soft way of his. Before she could ask how he had been, a girl came up behind him and draped her arms around him. Smiling, he looked up into her eyes.
"Hey sweetie, this is my friend Torie, we used to date. Torie, this is my girlfriend Melanie." Any hope she had held about getting back together with him quickly evaporated as his new girlfriend beamed warmly at her.
the end.

How about for a title

Sweet Goodbyes
Um, yeah, it was pretty good, but one thing. The transition between time was a bit rushed. You should clearly distinguish it. I could swear my confusion. I thought she was leaving jake or something when the airplane took off.
